Spherical roller bearings feature two rows of rollers with a common spherical raceway in the outer ring. The inner ring has two raceways that are inclined at an angle relative to the bearing axis, and the curvature center of the outer raceway is consistent with the bearing center.
Spherical roller bearing is self-aligning bearing and consequently insensitive to errors of alignment of the shaft relative to the housing, and to the deflection of shaft. It automatically compensates for the angular errors caused by shaft flexing and misalignments. In addition to radial load, the bearing can also carry bidirectional axial loads and the combined loads, featuring a large bearing capacity, and good vibration and impact resistance.
Spherical roller bearings are the most widely used bearings in the machinery industry, commonly found in various mechanical equipment in iron and steel, mining, paper making, shipbuilding, textile machinery, coal mills, power and other industries.
Spherical roller bearing cages are optional in pressed steel cage (CC), machined brass cage (CA), two machined brass cages (MB), and pressed reinforced steel cage (E). Bearing code on the same structure may have difference and the following is the features of common types of cages used in spherical roller bearings.

Available with cylindrical or spherical rollers, SKF thrust roller bearings sustain only axial loads, but they are suitable for heavy loads and have high axial rigidity. Spherical thrust roller bearings contain convex rollers and have a self- aligning capability and are free of any influence of mounting error or shaft deflection. Standard cages are machined brass, where the E-type offers a pressed cage for high load capacity.

Spherical roller bearings have two rows of symmetrical rollers, a common sphered outer ring raceway and two inner ring raceways inclined at an angle to the bearing axis. The centre point of the sphere in the outer ring raceway is at the bearing axis.

Bearing Features:

• Long service life: The rollers are manufactured to such tight dimensional and geometrical tolerances that they are practically identical in a roller set. The symmetrical rollers self-adjust, providing optimal load distribution along the roller length and together with the special profile prevent stress peaks at the roller ends.
• Low friction: Self-guiding rollers keep friction and frictional heat at low levels. A floating guide ring guides unloaded rollers so that they enter the load zone in the optimal position.
• Robust: All SKF spherical roller bearings contain strong window- or prong-type cages.

Shown in the figures, types EA, C, CD, CA, which are designed for high load capacity, are available. Types EA, C, and CD have pressed steel cages; and type CA has machined brass cages. Type EA has especially high load capacity, features low torque, and has a high-strength cage. An oil groove and holes are provided in the outer ring to supply lubricant and the bearing numbers are suffixed with E4. To use bearings with oil grooves and holes, it is recommended to provide an oil groove in the housing bore, since the depth of the groove in the bearing is limited.
