SKF cylindrical roller bearings are available in many designs, series and sizes. The major design differences between the bearings presented in this section are in:

• The number of roller rows (one, two or four)
• The type of cage (with, without or special designs)
• Bearings with cage can accommodate heavy radial loads, rapid accelerations and high speeds.
• Full complement bearings (without cage) incorporate a maximum number of rollers and are therefore suitable for very heavy radial loads at moderate speeds.
• SKF high-capacity cylindrical roller bearings combine the high load carrying capacity of a full complement bearing with the high speed capability of a bearing with cage.
• The configuration of the inner and outer ring flanges (position and number of guide flanges)

Four-row tapered roller bearings provide maximumcapacity in minimum space, combining the inherent high-load,radial/thrust capacity and direct/indirect mounting variables of taperedroller bearings.

Their main application is on the roll necks of rolling millequipment.All four-row bearings are supplied as pre-set matchedassemblies with all components identified to ensure correct installationsequence.

TQIT (Tapered Bore Four-Row Assembly)

Type TQIT bearings have a tapered bore that is matched and continuous through the inner races.This allows for an interference fit on the backup rolls of high-speed mills, where a loose inner race fit of a straight bore bearing could cause excessive neck wear.

CYLINDRICAL ROLLER BEARINGS

In bearings of this type, the cylindrical rollers are in linear contact with the raceways. They have a high radial load capacity and are suitable for high speeds.

There are different types designated as NU, NJ, NUP, N, NF (for single-row bearings), NNU, and NN (for double-row bearings depending on the design or absence of side ribs).

The outer and inner rings of all types are separable.

Some cylindrical roller bearings have no ribs on either the inner or outer ring, so the rings can move axially relative to each other. These can be used as free-end bearings. Cylindrical roller bearings, in which either the inner or outer rings has two ribs and the other ring has one, are capable of taking some axial load in one direction Double-row cylindrical roller bearings have high radial rigidity and are used primarily for precision machine tools.

Pressed steel or machined brass cages are generally used, but sometimes molded polyamide cages are also used.

Depending on the existence of ribs on their rings, Cylindrical Roller Bearings are classified into the following types:

• Types NU, N, NNU, and NN are suitable as free-end bearings. Types NJ and NF can sustain limited axial loads in one direction. Types NH and NUP can be used as fixed-end bearings.
• NH-type cylindrical roller bearings consist of the NJ-type cylindrical roller bearings and HJ-type L-shaped thrust collars.
• The inner ring loose rib of an NUP-type cylindrical roller bearing should be mounted so that the marked side is on the outside.

The SL182934-B-XL INA is a single-row, full-complement cylinder bearing. This bearing type has a solid outer and inner ring and a high number of cylindrical rollers. These rollers are guided between the ribs of the rings. Since there is no cage, the maximum number of rolls can be used. As a result, these bearings can support very high radial loads. However, the maximum speed is lower than the speed of cylindrical roller bearings with cages. Single-row full-complement cylindrical roller bearings can also support axial forces in one direction. They are used as support bearings. Support bearings allow axial displacement of the shaft relative to the housing in one direction. The shaft is located axially in the other direction.

The SL182934-B-XL INA is an X-life type cylindrical roller bearing. X-life bearings provide better performance than normal cylindrical roller bearings due to a special internal construction. Contact surfaces, steel grade and rolling bodies are of a higher quality. X-life bearings combine a higher load capacity with a longer service life. The bearings generate less heat and allow for higher speeds. Finally, X-life bearings allow for longer maintenance intervals compared to normal cylindrical roller bearings.

Cylindrical roller bearings are available in a wide range of designs, series, variants and sizes. The main design differences are the number of roller rows and the inner/outer ring flanges as well as cage designs and materials.

The bearings can meet the challenges of applications faced with heavy radial loads and high speeds. Accommodating axial displacement (except for bearings with flanges on both the inner and outer rings), they offer high stiffness, low friction and long service life.

Cylindrical roller bearings are also available in sealed or split designs. In sealed bearings, the rollers are protected from contaminants, water and dust, while providing lubricant retention and contaminant exclusion. This provides lower friction and longer service life. Split bearings are intended primarily for bearing arrangements which are difficult to access, such as crank shafts, where they simplify maintenance and replacements.

SKF four-row cylindrical roller bearings are available in several designs:

• With a cylindrical or tapered bore
• Open or sealed

 

Four-row cylindrical roller bearings are used almost exclusively for the roll necks of rolling mill stands, calenders and roller presses. Because they are normally mounted with an interference fit on the roll neck, four-row cylindrical roller bearings are well suited for rolling mill applications where the rolling speed is high.

Because four-row cylindrical roller bearings can accommodate only radial loads, they are mounted together with deep groove or angular contact ball bearings, or with tapered roller bearings (either radial or thrust design) which accommodate the axial loads.
